- This amendment does NOT mirror of Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. In fact, the Iowa House and Senate have each voted down efforts to substitute the U.S. Second Amendment version in the past.
- “Strict scrutiny” requires the highest standard for Iowa’s gun safety laws (usually reserved for First Amendment rights), and gun safety legislation may be subject to costly court processes.
- Only three states (Alabama, Missouri and Louisiana) have included NRA-pushed “strict scrutiny” language in their gun rights amendments of the 44 with constitutional gun laws.
